Only $3 a day is spent by the homeless for room, board, and full health coverage within the Hawaiian Islands.     Khmer Rouge Executioner Nets Only 19 Years Behind Bars For Genocide

    Over 30 years after the fall of the brutal Khmer Rouge regime, one of the Khmer Rouge trials has just ended. The trial of the man who presided over more than 17,000 executions has concluded. He was credited for time served, and sentenced to 19 years.     Khmer Rouge warden saw thousands dead

    The Khmer Rouge regime came to power in 1975. The goal of leader Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge was to liquidate the upper and middle class, and found a collectivist farming utopia. Today, town officials have drawn up their own Homestead Act of 2010 within the hopes that giving away basically free land will generate real estate tax revenues to bolster the town’s cash reserves. Recurring property tax is something Beatrice needs more than more baseball fields and parks, reports the New York Times.

    It is what the small towns are doing

    The spectre of spending budget deficit haunts more of small town America than ever, as outlined by the Times. If a traditionally well-off small town like Boca Raton is hurting, you know things are bad. Such small towns are giving away land for a nominal fee or quite possibly free of charge, hoping that will bolster the city tax register and remove the burden of lawn maintenance from the town and place it upon the shoulders of private owners. Having more people in town will inevitable increase the town’s cost to provide services, but the property tax may be more than enough for making up that gap and then some.
